True to life - especially the F1 - and some epic building techniques - especially the Solus

The McLaren F1 has always been my favourite car of all time. It remains the fastest naturally-aspirated (no turbo / forced induction) car in the world to date with a top speed of 390 kph. It is also incredibly special due to the limited number, the centre steering wheel position and the fact that the engine bay is lined with pure gold, as it is the best heat reflector. So to see it reproduced in such excellent detail is a proper thrill and it is the main reason why I got this set.

I knew nothing of the Solus, but must say that its building techniques in particular where unlike any I had seen before in small car sets and it was a very engaging build - the same goes for the McLaren, to a slightly lesser degree.

They look fantastic next to the Lamborghini Countach - especially given the orange and white colour scheme. Both sets will be in my office next to the Countach, and that for me counts as a high "play experience"

If I had any criticism it would be that there are too many stickers - I much prefer printed tiles, especially since the South African climate destroys stickers and they are nigh on impossible to get on correctly if you have shaky hands like me. This invariably results in cursing when it is clear the sticker is not on correctly and in trying to remove and reseat it. But maybe that's just me getting old.

The other slight downside is the formula-one style steering wheel on the Solus - it looks very cool, but it's a pity that the way it's mounted means it is slap-bang hitting the minfigure driver's face!

Other than these trivial complaints - these are really cool sets and actually very good value for money, considering the very interesting building techniques and how true-to-life both models look.
